Sainte Isabelle quality approach

Just under ten years, a quality culture has been developed at Sainte Isabelle Hospital. All workers, they have been part from medical teams, paramedical staff or administrative employees, have been involved and have acted inside quality system. Active participation and reciprocal actions have strengthened them and a common objective has bound them together: Improving oneself by listening to you.  Every year, internal audits (qualitative surveys, …) have been achieved to check on procedures and work up improvement solutions (training courses,  new actions, …).

Patients comments and satisfaction forms and have been reviewed very closely. During “hotel-quality” meetings we have worked at improving procedures as soon as possible.

So that, we have been able to listen to you and to organize us around your wishes.

Risk management

Committees are used to gather at Sainte Isabelle Hospital to work on reducing patients risks.
Struggle against nosocomial infection committee(CLIN)

Nosocomial infections are infections originated in a hospital and secondary to the patient's original condition.  

Surveillance and prevention are the major topics of Struggle against nosocomial infection committee. It is used to meet at Sainte Isabelle’s  to coordinate its actions.

Now, as prevention measures are well known by hospital workers, they can apply them inside units.

• Hand disinfection, separation of « clean » and « dirty », equipment sterilisation …
• Everybody carries germs. When somebody has become weaker, germs can easily increase and cause nosocomial infections. Thanks to the pre operative shower  and shampoo, many of germs are killed before entering into operating room. Risk is minimized.
• Sometimes, to prevent other hospitalised patients, solitary confinement is applied for infected persons.

Medical device vigilance committee

Accident and risk management according to equipment and sterile medical appliance is the role of Medical device vigilance committee.

• Medicine committee (COMEDIMS)
  Medicine committee is competent for managing or avoiding any medicine risk  (pharmacovigilance)
• Haemovigilance and  transfusion safety  CSTH)
  CSTH manages  the use of labile blood products.
• Struggle against pain committee  (CLUD)
  Post operating pain is better managed thanks to  CLUD formalities and procedures. Patient and care team act together.

Inform nurses when you’re in pain !

Due to an injury (surgery), you’re body warns you and pain is no more than a defence reaction you can fight off.
Don’t let it invade you !

Prevent back pain

Pain intensity can be measured with pain slide set (EVA). Use it to guide care team.

• Each surgery requires a specific pain procedure. We apply it.
• To have a better response to your pain, care team is used to follow training courses near pain specialists.

Evaluation of pain
When pain is beginning, alert nurses.
They ‘ll bring you a  pain slide set (EVA) and you’ll grade your pain intensity level.

If the pain slide set (EVA) can’t be used, others pain intensity scale tools will be proposed.

Reducing pain

A wide range of medicines can reduce pain. Confirmed by Medicine committee and Sainte Isabelle Hospital, they can be used according to your pathology and your pain intensity. They only can be ordered by a physician.

Other pain reducer kits can complete medicines action : 

• Ice packs : cold thermal stimulation helps reducing post operative pain
• Antalgic position
• Change of position
• Bedsore prevention and massages
• kinesitherapy

A safety guaranteed by French authority

Each French Health establishment, it is private or public, is submitted to a national control: The French Health Authority (HAS). It is a legal obligation.
In June 2009, Sainte Isabelle hospital complied with the second label(certification Version 2)
The French Health Authority checks hospitals about norms, hygiene, safety and patients rights respect as well as general organisation.
We are preparing the 2010 certification.
The most important is not really “how we apply procedures” but “what we do to improve them” and “how we are able to manage hospital risks”.

Every 4 years we have to comply with it.
